Rest assured that with us, you’re covered – leaving you to think about more specific holiday essentials for the family…
Sun Protection
Keeping yourself and your family safe in the sun will always be a high priority and this is even more important when you’re away and likely to spend more time outdoors. Seeking shade and drinking plenty of water throughout the day is always principal but stocking up on sun cream and digging your hats out in advance ensures you can be sun-safe in a matter of minutes once your holiday begins.
Entertainment and Treats
Any parent will know that it can pay to have entertainment on hand when travelling with kids, especially younger ones. Whether you’re in the car or on public transport, increased temperatures and long waits can contribute to bad moods and tantrums, so you’ll be glad to have come prepared. Be it books, toys, a singalong – or snacks to tide them over until the next meal – a distraction or two may provide some much-needed relief for the whole family.
Activity Gear
If you have a full itinerary of activities planned, you may not want to turn up and find you need to buy or rent equipment you already have at home. If you’ve got space to bring it along, it may save time and money to pack items you know you are definitely going to need – from swimming accessories, to hiking gear, to beach games – preparation is key to make sure you’ll have what you need.
Clothing - for all Eventualities
You will already have a fair idea of what clothing to pack based on the destination and duration of your holiday, but within reason it’s advisable to consider any changes that may occur. Unexpected adverse weather conditions, spillages or changes of plan can all be disruptive, but it may ease your mind to have thought about this ahead of time. The relief a spare set of clothes could provide if you find yourself caught short for any reason might just make a big difference.
Paperwork and Medical Docs
It’s easier than ever to travel without the need to bring along reams of printed documentation but if heading abroad with certain types of medication, you may be required to produce paperwork. Even if you’ve travelled with it before, legal requirements may change, so it is always worth seeking out guidance well in advance to check for any rules you’ll need to bear in mind.
You can find government guidance for travelling with controlled drugs here.
Travel Insurance and EHICs
If holidaying in Europe, it’s advisable to hold an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) – this is free and affords you the access to state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in Europe as well as the treatment that may be required for some pre-existing conditions.
However, while this may cover some potential medical fees, your EHIC cannot and should not replace a comprehensive travel insurance policy, which factors in a wider range of issues, including non-healthcare related problems you may encounter.
