IMPORTANT NEWS CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) COVER IS NOW AVAILABLE - We can confirm all of our policies now provide cover for Medical and other Expenses outside of the United Kingdom if you contract Coronavirus (COVID-19) whilst abroad. Along with medical expenses, baggage and personal liability, cancellation cover is one of the main reasons why we purchase travel insurance so make sure your policy provides you with the necessary cover.
Most policies cover Cancellation as standard from £1,000 to £5,000 per person but do check you have sufficient Cancellation cover to cover the total cost of the trip. Every provider will have different terms and conditions so make sure you read the small print of the policy wording. Remember the per person excess on the policy will be deducted from any claim.
Travel insurance cancellation cover will pay out if it is necessary or unavoidable for you to cancel or cut short your trip. This includes being taken ill or being injured, also the death, injury or serious illness of a relative or business associate. Please remember to check the definition of relative in the policy wording as this will often only cover you for immediate family members and maybe not an Aunt or an Uncle however close you are.
It is unlikely that you will be able to obtain insurance cover in respect of cancellation if your non-travelling relative is suffering from a pre-existing medical condition at the time of purchase of your travel insurance but do check the policy wording for full cover details.
Although travel insurance is often only thought of a few days before travel it is wise to purchase your travel insurance when you book your holiday. Do not leave it until something happens and you then realize you have no cover and are unable to recoup any of your holiday costs.
Always shop around for the best cover and compare quotes to find the most competitive policy with the right level of cancellation cover for all members of your party. Please remember the cheapest policy could often exclude cancellation cover altogether so always check you have the cover you need.
